Double Bonus

Double bonus – two postings in one day.  That’s not actually what I meant by double bonus but it fits, so it’s really a double double bonus in this case.  Not to worry, I’m getting to the point.  I want to do something to help the Tsunami victims in Japan, I found this website about the “call for quilts for japan” explaining they are collecting comfort quilts to hand out to the Tsunami victims.  They are in need of all sizes, anything from baby to adult.  All quilts have to be sent to Colorado (details are on their website) by the end of April and they will ship them internationally to Japan.

So here’s my double bonus – for every finished quilt purchased in the month of April from us we will donate a finished quilt to the call for quilts for Japan.  These will not be like for like quilts due to many of our quilts being one of a kind.

If you are interested, there several ways you can purchase a quilt from us.  All of our quilts are available on our Etsy site, our website as well as if you’re local feel free to swing by and take a look in person.

* Quilts pictured were sent to a charity called Contagious Hope in November 2010 to be given to orphans as Christmas gifts

We will also be having a charity block-a-thon on Tuesday April 12th from 1pm – 4pm and Thursday April 14th 5pm – 8pm.  During these times we will be making blocks that will later be pieced together to make the quilt tops.  Fabric, rotary cutters and thread will all be supplied, all you need to bring is your machine.  The Tuesday session will have light snacks provided, and the Thursday evening session will have soup available for dinner.  Please call us if you are interested in attending so we know how many seats to have available or go to our blog page on our website to register online.  We look forward to helping the Tsunami victims however we can.

Baby Shower Gift

Baby shower gifts are so fun to make – I had the best time making this baby quilt for a good friend at work.  He is so easy to work with and always does special little things for us that make the days go by quicker, so I was happy to help when he made the request for a baby quilt.  The only thing he requested is to have some form of butterflies in it.  I was able to find two really cute fabrics with butterflies, and an adorable butterfly quilting design.  So this is how it turned out…

I love the simplicity of the pattern, I think it works really well with the fabric.

The sweet little butterfly quilting design shows up well in this picture.

Here’s a close up of the embroidery, I love how much the dark pink color stands out.  This baby quilt came together in no time.  I have some scraps leftover, I already have a few ideas on how to use them.

Update

Wow… it’s been a really long time since I have blogged.  For those of you that have missed me – such as my blog stalker – sorry :~  I promise I have been very busy in my absence of posting.  I did manage to quilt my valentine’s day quilts in time, however I didn’t get that pesky binding sewed on by V day.  At least I will have them done in time for next year (I would hope)!  I do have one picture so you won’t have to wait all the way until next year to see it…

Now for the fun stuff.  I had SO much fun making and quilting this little quilt.  The fabric is Central Park by Kate Spain, it is so soft and silky I absolutely loved working with it.  Once I was finished with the top I didn’t have a quilting design that was really calling out to me, so I purchased a new one called “Whimsical Daisies” – I love how it stitched out!

In fact, I love this design so much that I will give you 10% off your quilting the whole month of March if you bring me (or mail me) your quilt and choose this design.  For additional details on pricing, e-mail me or checkout our website www.quiltedthimblecottage.com.

Here is a sketch of the quilting design.  So adorable.
More exciting news to come, hope to have it ready by next week so I can share the pictures.  Until then…

Take Over

Valentine’s fabric has taken over my sewing room.  I have made two quilt tops, working on the third one right now.  After February 14th I don’t expect to see anymore pink fabric for at least six months (never thought I would say that…)

I will post pictures as soon as I get them quilted – hopefully by this weekend if all goes according to plan!

New Loot

I know you will be jealous of my awesome deal, unless you too were there to partake in “helping” clear out the old to make room for the new.  With an unbeatable 50% discount on sale fabric, who is helping who in this case??   I certainly feel like I got the best deal, look at this beautiful Moda fabric that is just begging me to start a new project.

If you haven’t been yet, make your way to Sew Much Fun while the gettin’ is good – the sale ends at the end of the month!

Sewing Christmas Gift Swap

I love it when a group of quilters can get together and share projects, ideas and inspirations.  I am lucky enough to have two small groups I meet monthly.  This month we exchanged Christmas gifts.  The first group the gift only had to be sewing related.  Here is what I got (it’s a nightshirt) – I think it’s hilarious!  (and so true if you know any quilters!)

From my second group, we had to make a hand made gift for each group member (luckily there are only four of us).  This is what I made, it’s a little table topper made from Christmas fabrics, quilted with little mittens.

This is what I received from Carol.  I love the owls, it’s a perfect fit for me!

I received this from Mary Ann, it’s the cutest little scissor holder and a needle book.  It’s going to be quite useful, in fact I have already started using it!

I received this adorable little pillow from MaryAnn.  It has already found a comfy spot on our couch and seems to be making itself at home nicely.

The next two items don’t belong to me, but I thought they were so adorable that I just have to mention them.

A mouse pincushion – how cute is this?!

And a doughnut pincushion… makes me want to eat it, it looks so real.

What great gifts.  I will cherish all of them, and be reminded through the year of my wonderful sewing friends!!

Snow Day!

Here in Charlotte, NC we don’t see a lot of snow.  So, when it does snow it’s very exciting for a couple of reasons…

– The city usually cancels school (or work in my case) at the first sign of a flurry

– I love seeing everyone rush out to the grocery store for milk and bread (a milk sandwich?)

– It’s super fun watching our dog play in the snow (as well as throwing a few snowballs at her, which she will usually try to catch)

– Last but not least, it is beautiful to watch

Even better than a snow day, is when it snows on Christmas!  Nothing better than a white Christmas!!

I will be ready for all this white stuff to be gone in a day or two… but for now, it sure is pretty to look at.
